Wednesday Why: Sustaining a Culture

April 17 WW

Every generation hopes to pass on the best of its culture to its successive generations. This weekend we look forward to celebrating the annual Chauvin Blessing of the Fleet. Many fishing communities throughout the nation and the world celebrate this time-honored tradition. In Chauvin, we do it bayou-style. We hope you’ll join us at the Chauvin Sculpture Garden Folk Art Festival for interesting art, good music and delicious food. It’s a great venue from which to witness the historic Blessing of the Fleet. And Bayou Grace will be on hand collecting Whys!

To learn more about the history of the Boat Blessing, check out this interesting article written by Betsy Gordon for the Louisiana Folklife Program.

Why Not Take the Opportunity to Why?

Bayou Grace will be on the road with the project quite a bit over the next month. We hope to see you soon! And bring a friend or two or twelve!
